Computing Year 4 undergraduate Wong Wei Ming has done his country
and School proud by representing Singapore as a Youth Fellow at the
recent International Communication Union (ITU) Youth Forum in
Geneva, Switzerland.
Organisers describe the Forum, which was held from 4 to 9 October
2009, as a showcase of the brightest young people who are poised to
become the future of the information communication technologies (ICT)
industry.
Participants of the Forum are chosen on competitive essay
submissions, where they present their perspectives on the role of
ICT in the development of their respective countries. Wei Ming, who
is majoring in Information Systems, distinguished himself from among
other youths in Singapore who had applied for the youth fellowship
at the Forum.

Held
on the sides of ITU World 2009, a gathering of senior
telecommunication and ICT industry leaders and decision-makers from
around the world, the Youth Forum was a chance for university
students from various participating countries to meet and exchange
ideas, and for them to hear first hand from world leaders.
At the Forum, Wei Ming had the chance to meet Singapore's Acting
Minister for
Information, Communications and the Arts, RAdm (NS) Lui Tuck Yew,
head of the Singapore delegation to ITU TELECOM World 2009.
Wei Ming’s essay to the ITU to apply for the Fellowship was
compiled, along with those of some 250 youths from around the world,
into a book that was presented to United Nations Secretary General
Mr Ban Ki-Moon on 5 October 2009 during the Youth Forum.
Wei Ming has been making news in the past year. He made his mark
with his contributions from the technological perspective in a team
of NUS students that emerged the top winner of the CaseIT 2009
competition in Vancouver, Canada, in March. His team mates were from
NUS Business School. On 30 October 2009, he will be receiving a
group award for his competition achievement at NUS Student
Achievement Awards 2009.
